Cybersecurity Awareness Month Week 2
Dear Howard University Community,
Welcome to Week 2 of Cybersecurity Awareness Month! Last week, we focused on social engineering and phishing attacks. This week, we’re looking at how cyber threats are evolving, especially with the rise of artificial intelligence.
Using AI Tools Responsibly
While AI can be a tool for cybercriminals, it also offers numerous benefits, including support for research and writing, as well as planning and productivity. However, it's essential to use AI tools safely and responsibly. Keep the following best practices in mind:
- Data protection - Never enter confidential, personal, or sensitive information into AI systems.
- Deepfake awareness - Be cautious with images or videos that appear manipulated.
- Content verification - Always double-check AI-generated content for accuracy.
- Copyright and liability - AI-generated work is not eligible for copyright, and users are responsible for its use. Review and verify any AI-assisted work before publishing or submitting it.
Cybersecurity is not just about preventing attacks; it's about making smart, informed decisions every day. By learning how AI is shaping both the threat landscape and our tools, we can all be more secure.
