Don't Let Cyber Grinches Steal Your Data
December 2, 2025
Dear Howard Community,
As the holiday season approaches, universities must stay alert to cybersecurity risks. This period often sees an increase in cyber threats, making it crucial for students, faculty, and staff to be aware and take proactive measures. Ensuring you know how to report any suspicious activity or potential security incidents can significantly reduce the impact of a cyberattack.
Here are a few tips to help you stay safe online during this festive time:
- Beware of Phishing Scams - Be cautious of unsolicited emails, messages, or links, especially those promising deals or asking for personal information. Verify the sender before clicking on any links.
- Use Strong, Unique Passwords - Ensure your passwords are strong and unique for each account. Consider using a password manager to keep track of them.
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) - Add an extra layer of security to your accounts by enabling 2FA. This makes it harder for cybercriminals to gain access.
- Update Software Regularly - Keep your devices and software up to date with the latest security patches. This helps protect against known vulnerabilities.
- Monitor Your Accounts - Regularly check your bank and credit card statements for any unauthorized transactions. Report any suspicious activity immediately.
- Educate Your Family - Make sure your family members are aware of these security practices, especially children and elderly relatives who may be more vulnerable to scams.
Please remember to complete your Quarterly Cyber Security Training. An email was sent to the Howard Community on Wednesday, Nov. 19. If you have any questions or concerns, please send an email to
