Cybersecurity Tips

    1. Avoid logging into sensitive University systems (like email or Workday) from unsecured networks.
  2. . 🀳 Use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
    1. Ensure MFA is enabled on your University accounts and personal services.
  3. πŸ”’ Secure Your Devices
    1. Always lock your laptop and phone when unattended.
    2. Use strong passwords or biometric locks.
  4. 🎣 Beware of Phishing Scams
    1. Expect an increase in phishing attempts.
    2. Verify sender addresses before clicking links.
    3. Report suspicious emails to ets-cybersecurity@howard.edu or click the Report Phishing link at the top of your email.
  5. πŸ“₯  Back Up Important Files
    1. Store important data in University-approved cloud storage.
    2. Avoid saving sensitive documents locally without encryption.

  • Inform the cybersecurity team (ets-cybersecurity@howard.edu) if traveling with a University device.
  • Remove unnecessary sensitive data.
  • Install tracking apps like Find My iPhone or Find My Device.
  • Update all software and apps.

  • Avoid using shared public computers.
  • Use a travel-specific device if possible.
  • Connect via VPN and avoid online banking or accessing HR/payroll systems.
