Functional Owner Checklist
For functional owners
Your part in getting R2 to the finish line.
If you own a functional area, a few things depend on you. Here is the whole of it: name the right testers, get their access sorted early, see your processes verified, and sign off. This checklist walks the timeline.
Testers named & access By August 15 | Verification window Aug 15 to Sep 11 | Your sign off By September 11 |
The role
What an owner is on the hook for
You are not expected to do the testing yourself. Your job is to make sure the right people do it, that they can get in when the window opens, and that when your area is verified, someone accountable says so. The sign off is yours because you are the person who can vouch for your area.
The checklist
What to do, and when
Before preview · by August 15
☐ Name your testers
Pick the people who actually run each process day to day, not stand ins. They are the ones who will notice when something is off.
☐ Confirm their access early
Make sure each tester can log into the preview tenant before August 15. Chasing access during the window is the most common cause of a late start.
☐ Have your rubric in hand
Confirm you have received the test script rubric prepared for your area, so testing follows a consistent plan.
During testing · August 15 to September 11
☐ See your critical processes verified
Make sure the processes on your rubric get run and checked in the preview tenant, and that findings are written down clearly.
☐ Track the daily stand up
Join or follow the ten minute daily check in, and escalate any blocker the same day rather than letting it sit.
☐ Review any optional features
Look at the optional features offered to your area and decide whether they are worth turning on. Your interest feeds the go or no go decision.
At sign off · by September 11
☐ Confirm your area checks out
Make sure every critical process was verified and any issues were resolved and retested.
☐ Attest by signature
Sign off for your area. Your signature is what closes Gate B for your processes and puts the verification on the record.
About the sign off
Why it has to be you
Your sign off is the evidence your area was verified by someone who would know.
It is the single thing an auditor looks for, and the reason it cannot be delegated to someone outside your area.
