Final Week of Cyber Security Awareness Month

Dear Howard University Community,

It’s the final week of Cybersecurity Awareness Month! As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping our community informed and safe, we would like to take this opportunity to highlight one of the most common threats in the digital world – social engineering and phishing attacks

Did you know social engineering in phishing emails is a tactic where attackers manipulate or deceive individuals into disclosing sensitive information – such as passwords, credit card details, or personal data – by posing as a trustworthy source?

We encourage everyone to stay vigilant against social engineering and phishing attempts. These attacks often come in the form of emails, phone calls, or messages that appear legitimate but are designed to trick you into sharing personal or sensitive information.

Always verify the sender’s identity, avoid clicking on suspicious links, and never share passwords or login details. If you receive a suspicious email, please report it to our Cyber Security Team immediately, by clicking the "reporting phishing" button located at the top of your email.

To make this last week fun and engaging, we are hosting a mini cybersecurity quiz. The first five people to answer the questions correctly will win an exciting prize. Please email your responses with the subject line"Cyber Security Quiz" to ets-techtuesday@howard.edu

  1. What is phishing?
  2. Name two ways to identify a phishing email.
  3. Why is it important to not click on a suspicious link?
  4. What should you do if you receive a suspicious email or message?
  5. What is social engineering, and how does it differ from phishing?

Remember to stay safe and protect your data!
