[Keep Your Device Active] What You Need to Do Before August 7

Dear Howard University Community,

As part of our continued commitment to security and operational efficiency, the Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) team is launching a university-wide device cleanup initiative. This effort focuses on reviewing and removing outdated or inactive university-issued computers that have not connected to the network for several months.

What’s Happening?
Starting Thursday, August 7, 2025, ETS will begin phasing out university-issued computers that have not checked in to the university’s domain network, either by being on campus or connected via VPN, since December 2024. Devices that remain inactive after this date will be scheduled for automatic deactivation.

Why This Matters
Removing unused or unmonitored devices helps:

  • Improve the accuracy of university device management.
  • Strengthen cybersecurity by eliminating outdated and potentially vulnerable systems.
  • Ensure only actively used and supported technology remains connected to the university infrastructure.
  • Reduces licensing cost.

What You Need to Do
If you are still using a university-issued device that hasn’t connected to the university network since December 2024, please take the following action before Thursday, August 7, 2025:

Sign in to the device while connected to the university domain, either on campus or using the VPN.
This quick step will confirm the device is still in use and prevent it from being inadvertently disabled.

If you have additional questions, open a ticket on the Enterprise Service Center or contact the Service Desk at huhelpdesk@howard.edu. Please stay connected with us on Instagram (@ETS_Howard) for the latest updates on technology, events, and tips to enhance your digital experience.

Let’s keep our systems secure, accurate, and up to date. Thank you for your attention and cooperation.

In Truth and Service,
