Dive into the IT Governance Council Framework and Approval Process

Dear Howard University Community,

Following the launch of our IT Governance Council and its framework, we are excited to share a closer look at how this initiative is shaping the strategic management of IT resources across the University.

Key Framework Elements

The IT Governance Council ensures the holistic alignment of IT resources and services University-wide, including:

Compliance and Risk Management - Ensuring projects meet legal and regulatory requirements.

Value Delivery - Aligning IT resources with strategic priorities.

Strategic Alignment - Enhancing collaboration to support Howard’s goals.

Resource Management - Promoting stewardship of IT resources.

Transparency - Promoting accountability across all facets of IT Governance.

Approval Workflow

To streamline IT project approvals, the Council has implemented the following workflow:

  1. Project Request Submission: All IT project requests are submitted to the IT Governance Council. Please see the IT Governance Council Project Form linked here.
  2. Council Review: The Council reviews and approves requests monthly, focusing on strategic alignment and resource impact.
  3. ETS Review: Approved projects are forwarded to Enterprise Technology Services (ETS), where they are reviewed and assigned to the appropriate department or Project Management Office (PMO).

This process ensures that IT projects are handled efficiently and in line with our institutional priorities.
