Scheduled Network Upgrade During Winter Break

Dear Howard University Community,

As we approach winter break, Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) would like to share important information about a scheduled network infrastructure upgrade to enhance campus connectivity and performance. In partnership with core vendors, ETS is completing a major Network Transformation initiative by transitioning our network from the Wonder Plaza Data Center to the new Ralph Bunche Data Center, ensuring a more secure, resilient, and future-ready environment.

Scheduled Migration Window: Dec. 26-30, 2025
As part of the final phase of our network transformation initiative, our IT teams will be migrating connections. This building-by-building transition has been strategically planned to align with the winter break period to minimize disruption to campus operations.

What’s Happening?
All campus buildings physical, wireless, and hybrid connection will cut over to the new data center, strengthening our technology backbone and improving performance for students, faculty, and staff.

Impact – During this period, most buildings will experience brief service interruptions as systems are migrated.

On-Site Support – ETS and vendor teams will be available to address issues and ensure services are restored by the end of the window.

What You Need to Know

  • If you manage public-facing lines, VoIP phones, or critical systems, please have backup plans in place or forward calls as needed.
  • Avoid scheduling large-scale events or critical operations during this time to minimize disruptions.
  • While the University will largely be closed, some staff may still be on campus; please share this notice with your teams.
