Modernizing Howard University IT through secure, innovative and collaborative solutions to enable the University to accomplish its mission. 

The Network Modernization Project aligns with Howard University’s and ETS’ forward thinking, planning and executing to ensure that the institution continues to thrive, supported by a robust, modern, reliable and secure network infrastructure.

Project Purpose

The Campus Network Modernization project is geared towards enhancing and modernizing the network infrastructure, to ensure we meet the highest connectivity, security, and efficiency standards globally. Howard is partnering with Cisco and taking the bold step to modernize the network infrastructure by replacing the existing wireless network access points and switches with new models to streamline and modernize network operations ultimately improving the student experience. This is a momentous leap forward in the university’s commitment to innovation and excellence in education.

Project Status: On Track

Updates:

  • Phase III upgrades are complete. Phase IV upgrades are at 85% completion. The Net Ops team is preparing to transform Burr Gym Annex in the coming week, based on stakeholder availability.
  • ETS will begin the RMA process for all legacy equipment collected in phase III & IV
  • UGL wi-fi optimization work will continue with the implementation team across campus.
  • Sec Ops has finalized the security reviews in all buildings in phases I-IV.
  • The Infrastructure and Security team are preparing for the Quality Phase of the Campus Modernization Project. This will include network testing.
  • A final lessons learned will be conducted and published at the conclusion of this project.
  • Schools currently waiting to be relocated will be upgraded during their move.
